What to say...honestly.....

I've recently recieved 3 HONEST SCRAP blogger awards. Thank you My Symphony, CarmeliteMom and More Than Enough - Sarah! You all ARE honest and virtuous women whom I adore!

And, yes I have been bad about accepting awards and following through. This time, it was because I wasn't sure what to say. But, then it came to me....

I know what I can honestly say:

1. I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all that is seen and unseen.

2. And I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God. Born of the Father before all ages. God of God, Light of Light, true God of true God. Begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father. By Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and here I would genuflect.

3. And I believe He became flesh by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary: and was made man.

4. And I believe He was crucified for us and suffered under Pontius Pilate, and was buried.

5. And I believe on the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures. He ascended in heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.

6 . He will come again, I honestly believe, in glory to judge the living and the dead. And of his kingdom there will be no end.

7. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son Who together with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified; and Who spoke through the prophets. And in ONE, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

8. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. And I await the resurrection of the dead. And the life of the world to come. Amen.

9. Other than that, let it be known that I am afraid of big, hairy spiders.

10. And finally, there's a lot of fart humor around my house. (blush- that's the kind of honest stuff I feared telling you!)

Now...to keep this award, I must do the following:1) Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award. CHECK
2) Share "ten honest things" about myself. CHECK
3) Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me. SEE BELOW
4) Tell those 7 people that they've been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving it. WILL DO

I will also be giving out other awards as Sarah gave me a second!!!!

The second is a brand new award from Jennifer at My Chocolate Heart, a great blog!!

The award? To.... "Those who receive this award are of the sweetest nature. They are kind, friendly, funny, loving eager to share their love for Jesus with others, and brave in their efforts to reflect Him to this darkened world. They are the kind of folks you're blessed to know, even if it's only in the bloggy-shere."

O! I know these types and they are "brilliant" and "encouraging" too! Easily those noted below win and deserve both awards!

Bono inspired by Our Lady's Magnificat

Bono says U2 Song inspired by Mary

U2 Song "Magnificent" from new album "No line on the Horizon" inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary

In a recent Rolling Stone interview Brian Hiatt quotes Bono as saying "Magnificent was inspired by the Magnificat, a passage from the Gospel of Luke in the voice of the Virgin Mary that was previously set to music by Bach. "There's this theme running through the album of surrender and devotion and all the things I find really difficult," Bono says. "All music for me is worship of one kind or another."

Dick Staub of www.DickStaub.com writes "Magnificent" recalls the prayer of the Virgin Mary in the Gospel of Luke: "Magnificent, Magnificent, I was born, I was born to be with you in this space and time. I was born, I was born to sing for you. I didn't have a choice but to lift you up and sing whatever song you wanted me to. I give you back my voice from the womb my first cry, it was a joyful noise ... Only love, only love can leave such a mark, but only love, only love can heal such a scar."

[Her model of faith IS Magnificent! - LUV seeing Bono kiss his rosary]

The Magnificat [Latin: magnifies], also called the Canticle of Mary, is recorded in the Gospel of Luke (1:46-55). It is the Virgin Mary's joyous prayer in response to her cousin Elizabeth's greeting (Luke 1: 41-45). This great hymn forms part of the Church's prayer in the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours). When it is recited as part of the Divine Office, it is followed by the Gloria Patri ("Glory be"). The traditional sung Magnificat is Latin plainchant. One of the hymn's most glorious musical renditions is the version of the Magnificat by J.S. Bach.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes the Magnificat as "the song both of the Mother of God and of the Church" and explains this prayer's significance:

Mary's prayer is revealed to us at the dawning of the fullness of time. Before the Incarnation of the Son of God, and before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, her prayer cooperates in a unique way with the Father's plan of loving kindness: at the Annunciation, for Christ's conception; at Pentecost, for the formation of the Church, His Body. In the faith of His humble handmaid, the Gift of God found the acceptance He had awaited from the beginning of time. She whom the Almighty made "full of grace" responds by offering her whole being: "Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be [done] to me according to Thy word". "Fiat": this is Christian prayer: to be wholly Gods' because He is wholly ours.

The Prayer
My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,
For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
and exalted those of low degree.
He has filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich He has sent empty away.
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His posterity forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Newest Family Member!

My brother and sister-in-law just had their 3rd baby girl!

Whitney was born on Monday and we are so overjoyed with the gift of this new soul to love for a lifetime. They had to look at her for a while to decide if she was a Whitney or an Elizabeth. Ultimately, she seemed like a Whitney to them.

Up until that time, there had been two possibilities for a name of our newest family member. It seemed that "Elizabeth" was not to be....

But God had other plans.

Today, this information (below) arrived to our home.

PLEASE, join us in praying for "our" Elizabeth.

(Isn't she sooooo cute and precious. We wish she was really ours!)

A Prayer for Fathers

Father's Day began with a prayer, on the way to Mass, for protection, health and encouragement of Father's - biological and spiritual....
The boys were on the altar with this dear Priest for a wonderful, Sunday Mass. Father, in his homily, made a connection I had not yet heard before. Adam's bride, Eve, came from his side. Christ, the 2nd Adam, from His Sacred Heart peirced had His bride come forth from his side. Blood and water, the Precious Blood of our Church's Eucharist and the water of Baptism...
God bless this friend and Father.

Then, we went to my parent's house to be with my Father. The children went swimming while my Mother, Father, husband and I enjoyed a breezy conversation, bird watching, flower graden appreciation and snacking patio side.

While the sumptious feast was being prepared, the kids jumped on the trampoline.

My second son recieved a grilling lesson from his Dad. God has been so good to me and my children to give them a Father who truly puts his faith first...and....he's a alot of fun!

My Father seemed to have a great Father's Day. He is loved.
God bless these fine men. St. Michael, in a world that devalues these roles....defend them in battle....

Mary is Humility, Satan is Pride.

‘Because Mary and Satan’ – states Padre Alfredo – ‘are two opposites. Mary is humility, Satan is pride."

For some fascinating reading on this Priest, Excorcist, and St. Gemma Galgani devotee read HERE.

We pray Thee, O Lord Jesus Christ, to shower Thy most abundant and precious graces on the priests of Thy Holy Church, who are Thy dearest servants and dispensers of Thy celestial graces, the father of our souls; that they being more and more intimately united to Thee may obtain from Thy bounty the grace to confirm our faith; to strengthen our Hope, to increase our Charity, to make us detest our sins with more lively sorrow, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

O Mary Queen of the Clergy, pray for us; obtain for us many holy Priests.

Emmanuel Books ~ God IS with them!

Who knows how long I was on the phone with Paola?

What I do know is that I came off happy, relieved and confidant in what curriculum choices to make for next year. She remembered the names of my children, their ages and interests. How many times have I heard other homeschoolers say the same.

Where else will someone talk through every decision and give you such pertinent advice on curriculum? Their catalog reads like a homeschooling manual, with descriptions like no other vendor.

This year has been hard on many financially, us included. When the coupons came from places that undercut Emmanuel Books, I asked my husband if he felt we should go that route and save some money? Knowing that I consistently talk to Paola who always has time for me and experienced advice with each item in her catalog, he said no. I was relieved. We both feel it is important to support this small, Catholic, family business!

The quality of what they offer has a price to us.

What they stand for has a price to us.

We remain grateful for Emmanuel Books and the time and care for homeschoolers that the Ciscanik family provides! That family embodies exceptional service in building relationships with their customers!

May God continue to bless them.

From the Soundtrack of My Life ~ Night Swimming

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night
I'm not sure all these people understand

It's not like years ago,
The fear of getting caught,
Of recklessness and water

Nightswimming, remembering that night
September's coming soon
I'm pining for the moon

And what if there were two
Side by side in orbit
Around the fairest sun?

DEFINITIVE R.E.M.

She asks...Are you REALLY Catholic?

Jennifer Hartline is one courageous writer!

"You are free to decide where and with whom you stand. You do not, however, have the right to try to change the Catholic Church to suit your opinions or wishes. No matter how brilliant you are, you are not above the Magisterium. No matter how persuasive the political position, you cannot ignore the law of the Church and the Natural Law. Doctrine and Orthodoxy may be distasteful words in this age of personal freedoms, but if you call yourself Catholic, you need to know what Catholic doctrine actually says and follow it. All of it – not just this or that particular idea that suits your preferences. The Church is not a cafeteria. You are not free to take some things and leave others.

If you support (that means vote for) politicians who advocate and legislate for laws and policies that violate the moral teachings of the Catholic Church, you are choosing to conform to this world rather than be transformed by Christ, and that’s very dangerous for all of us. To whom does your heart belong? It’s time to wipe out the notion that it’s okay for a Catholic to believe one thing in private and support the opposite in public, a la Biden, Pelosi, Kerry, Sebelius, etc. It is not okay. It is in fact, a mockery of our faith and a pathetic lie.

Either live as a Catholic Christian or don’t, but stop trying to remodel the Church to make it more appealing to the world. Learn your Catholic faith, understand it correctly and LIVE IT out in public without apologizing. Stop compromising the truth. Quit trying to rewrite Church teaching to bring it “up to speed” with modern times. The Church is not out of step with society; society is out of step with the Church. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and thus His Church is timeless, ageless and always perfectly relevant. It is not the Church who needs to change her thinking; it is society that needs to CORRECT its thinking. "

Kate Gosselin ~ Norma Desmond?

Every cover of every supermarket rag....

Troubling and sad. Many are taking the opportunity to connect the weaknesses of 2 damaged parents and make it an indictment on all large families. I don't think it's about family life any more, it's about FAME and the pursuit of it and material goods.

I find it not a coincidence, but hollywood formulaic, that Kate's also doing the caught-in-a-bikini shot on the cover of a recent magazine. That's always good for some media time especially when coupled with heartache. It works for Jennifer Aniston after Brad Pitt and Kate Hudson after break-ups.

I can't help but think Kate Gosselin is promoting her self and her interests and her marketability and I am left to wonder when did she stop feeling like a momma bear about protecting her children from all of this? Wouldn't most of us want to run and hide from all this? Wouldn't we want to save our marriage, circle the wagons, retreat into healing? It doesn't seem like doubling the amount of shows they are doing is any way to really save a marriage, as it is what seems to be driving Jon away.

I'm struck with the image of Kate's becoming like Norma Desmond from Sunset Boulevard. A tragic, lonely woman looking for attention and turning her face toward the bright lights and cameras, oblivious to the destruction and reality, "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille."

I've been thinking of a Saint for this family, one to pray to for intercessory prayers. When it comes to media relations and reaching out to the lost, I think of Pope John Paul II. Although the church is still discerning his sainthood, there is a prayer for his intercession. JPII was devoted to the Holiest of Mothers, The Blessed Virgin Mary....may she intercede in her motherly way. Let us pray....

ALL murder is wrong....Lord have Mercy.....

49 MILLION TO FIVE by Ann Coulter
June 3, 2009 (more on http://www.anncoulter.com/)

In the wake of the shooting of late-term abortionist George Tiller, President Barack Obama sent out a welcome message that this nation would not tolerate attacks on pro-lifers or any other Americans because of their religion or beliefs.

Ha ha! Just kidding. That was the lead sentence -- with minor edits -- of a New York Times editorial warning about theoretical hate crimes against Muslims published eight months after 9/11. Can pro-lifers get a hate crimes bill passed and oceans of ink devoted to assuring Americans that "most pro-lifers are peaceful"? For years, we've had to hear about the grave threat that Americans might overreact to a terrorist attack committed by 19 Muslims shouting "Allahu akbar" as they flew commercial jets into American skyscrapers. That would be the equivalent of 19 pro-lifers shouting "Abortion kills a beating heart!" as they gunned down thousands of innocent citizens in Wichita, Kan. Why aren't liberals rushing to assure us this time that "most pro-lifers are peaceful"?

According to recent gallop polling, a majority of Americans oppose abortion -- which is consistent with liberals' hysterical refusal to allow us to vote on the subject. In a country with approximately 150 million pro-lifers, five abortionists have been killed since Roe v. Wade. In that same 36 years, more than 49 million babies have been killed by abortionists. Let's recap that halftime score, sports fans: 49 million to five. Meanwhile, fewer than 2 million Muslims live in America and, while Muslims are less murderous than abortionists, I'm fairly certain they've killed more than five people in the United States in the last 36 years. For some reason, the number "3,000" keeps popping into my head. So in a country that is more than 50 percent pro-life -- and 80 percent opposed to the late-term abortions of the sort performed by Tiller -- only five abortionists have been killed. And in a country that is less than 0.5 percent Muslim, several dozen Muslims have killed thousands of Americans. But the killing of about one abortionist per decade leads liberals to condemn the entire pro-life movement as "domestic terrorists." At least liberals have finally found some terrorists they'd like to send to Guantanamo.

Tiller bragged about performing 60,000 abortions, including abortions of viable babies, able to survive outside the mother's womb. He made millions of dollars performing late-term abortions so gruesome that only two other abortionists -- not a squeamish bunch -- in the entire country would perform them.

I wouldn't kill an abortionist myself, but I wouldn't want to impose my moral values on others. No one is for shooting abortionists. But how will criminalizing men making difficult, often tragic, decisions be an effective means of achieving the goal of reducing the shootings of abortionists? Following the moral precepts of liberals, I believe the correct position is: If you don't believe in shooting abortionists, then don't shoot one.

On Judging

Judging Judging
by Christi Derr

http://catholicexchange.com/2009/05/21/118761/

It was the habit of a group of men and women of various ages to gather Saturday mornings at a Texas abortion clinic, to walk up and down the sidewalk and pray the Rosary. It was the custom of this clinic to respond by sending out two or three security guards and a large dog to pass by the group and ensure that none of them spoke to any of the women going in. Sometimes the security detail was silent. Sometimes they would try to agitate the protesters by shouting, “Get a life!” Don’t you have anything better to do than harass these women?” and the like. Most times though, the guards would try to disrupt the protest by one carefully chosen sentence. Security would collectively steady its gaze, stand up tall and aim the rhetorical “big guns” on us. They would, with great flourish, confidently pronounce, the unanswerable, the silencer of Christians, an admonition right from the lips of Our Savior Himself, “Do not judge.”

“Judge not, that you be not judged” (Mt 7: 1) must be the most misinterpreted, and recently, the most quoted words of Jesus in the whole New Testament. In our modern culture, this one statement of Our Lord’s has taken on a greater importance than that of the Ten Commandments. One breath of this phrase can single handedly sap the evangelical strength of the most solid Christian. It has come to mean that to judge an act as sinful, is as sinful as the act itself. So, if a good friend or relative announces that he is moving in with his girlfriend, you may congratulate him, you may note that the two will save on living expenses, you may stay silent, you may buy them a toaster, or you may even point out studies that show living together before marriage affects the later marriage (if it happens) for the worse. You may NOT use the word sin at any time when referring to the arrangement. Unless it is in jest, you know, “Going to live in sin, huh?”

The Roman virtues were justice and courage. The Greeks celebrated wisdom and eloquence. Medieval Europe valued piety and strength. In the Western world, our greatest virtue has become tolerance. But it is selective: tolerance only for sexual sins and for sins against life. For Christianity and religion in general, intolerance — as the last obstacle to unrestrained license.Imagine the reaction of a mixed group of people to my saying: “I put my daughter on birth control. She and her boyfriend are very serious and I want to make sure she doesn’t end up an unwed mother.” Now imagine if I said this: “I am combining my daughter’s wedding with her sweet sixteen. She and her boyfriend are very serious and I want to make sure she doesn’t end up an unwed mother.” Okay, more realistically, what if I shared with a group that my daughter has taken a pledge of chastity? How many eye rolls and mocking smiles would I be met with? On the other hand what is commonly tolerated by society is pretty extreme. Ever watch snippets from a gay pride parade? Does is get more extreme than partial birth abortion?

Society only tolerates sexual sins and sins against life. And that tolerance is strictly enforced. People trudge out the “do not judge” phrase and use it like a club to silence anyone who might speak against such license. Society also rewards anyone who abides by its rules and strikes the word “sin” from his or her vocabulary. Christians are just as susceptible to wanting to be liked as anyone else. And so, a Catholic mother does not speak out against her son’s planned vasectomy. She fears losing his love, and besides, who is she to judge? A young man says nothing when he hears that his friend intends to abort her “accidental” pregnancy. After all, he is not a woman; he can’t understand how she feels. We even go so far as to give Jesus a makeover. We preach a weak, winking, desperate-to-be-liked, Jesus. This Jesus didn’t die to save us from sin; he made it so that sin doesn’t exist.

The thing is, though, there is a hell and we can go there if we live a life callously committing one mortal sin after another and never repenting. A man once told St. Pio of Pietrelcina that he did not believe in hell. To which the holy stigmatic replied, “You will when you get there.” How insensitive! How judgmental! Padre Pio, it seems, was more concerned with this man repenting than being liked by him. St Faustina, the very saint who revealed the depths and wonder of God’s mercy, was also commanded to, “visit the abysses of hell so that [she] might…testify to its existence.” The horrors she describes in her diary (741) make Dante’s literary description of hell look tame. Our Blessed Mother showed the three children of Fatima a vision of hell. The vision was so terrifying that all three said they would have died of fright had it not been for Our Lady’s protection. The children spent the rest of their lives spreading the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, praying and making sacrifices for sinners. They wanted to do whatever they could to help souls not spend eternity there.

Fr. John Echert (EWTN) notes that “the Gospels dedicate nearly twice the attention to the punishment of hell than the reward of Heaven”. So, no matter how we would like to wish it away, hell exists and God does not want our sins to take us there. The First Pillar of HolinessA pillar of holiness according to St. Francis de Sales, is hatred; hatred of all that is evil, hatred of all that God hates. We know “what” God loves. God loves us unfathomably! He created us in His image. He suffered the most painful death in human history to save us from our sins. He dwells intimately within us in His Holy Spirit. But God does not force us to love Him. He would never have had it that way. There is always that chance we will pick sin over His love and He will lose us forever.

So, what does God hate? Sin! He hates sin in the same way a mother hates the cancer that is devouring her precious child. The way a father hates the drug addiction that is destroying his son. God hates sin because it kills us. And if we love God and are our brother’s keepers, we should hate it too! That is why we need to judge. St. Thomas Aquinas defines mercy as removing an evil from the distressed. It is mercy that motivates a wife to demand that her alcoholic husband go to AA. Mercy moves a father to free his daughter from a physically abusive boyfriend. We love our brother in Christ. We know that God loves him. We want to help him remove the evil of sin from his life. We want the soul to experience the consolation, inexplicable joy, and true freedom of loving and being loved by Jesus. We do not have to wait until we are perfect to offer this mercy. When Jesus said “remove the log from your own eye before you remove the speck from your neighbors” he was warning against hypocrisy. In other words we should be attempting to follow Christ ourselves when we correct others. If one overweight individual invited another overweight individual to start a diet and exercise routine with him, it would not be hypocritical to do so. He would not have to wait until appearing on the cover of Fit magazine before inviting the overweight friend to begin the regimen. In the same way, as long as we are sincerely journeying towards Christ, we should try to take our brothers with us. We don’t have to wait until we are canonized.

I was inspired to write this piece because of a painful episode in my own life when I failed to be merciful. I had a dear friend who once confided to me his struggle with a sexual sin. Note, I said “struggled.” I had the perfect opportunity to tell him the consoling and wise teachings of the Catholic Church. I did not. I loved him very much, but loved being seen as mature, tolerant, and compassionate even more. I withheld the beauty and true compassion of the Church’s teachings, and only restated the old unimaginative societal line to him. He was tragically killed in a car accident a few months later. God had arranged for me to reach out to my friend with the life giving truth of Christ, but I traded an act of mercy for “the esteem of men”. Will everyone we fail to correct die shortly afterwards? Or course not. But it is possible that your relationship with the person will change, or you will miss a particularly fertile time to speak to another about Christ. We should be docile to the Holy Spirit and use the opportunities He lays in our laps to evangelize and help free others from sin.

Christ commanded us to go out to the whole world and tell the Good News. We are being cowed by our culture’s “do not judge” rule and thereby not fulfilling the great commission. As the Church militant, we must trample human respect under our feet. We must once again take up our weapons of truth and brotherly love. We will be merciful — loving who God loves, hating what God hates. Only then we will have victory and fearlessly win the world for Christ!

His Time Machine

And my son said tonight at dinner, reflecting back on his weekend, "If I had a time machine I would keep setting it back to the days of my First Confession and First Holy Communion to live them again."

My youngest son made his First Holy Communion on Pentecost Sunday. On Friday, he mad his First Confession with our homeschool pastor. He had been feeling a little sick but as soon as he came out of the confessional he was all business about saying his penance and then so angelic, hugging us all with joy. Christ's Sacrament of forgiveness truly is healing.

This was the first Sacrament one of our children had made in the Extraordinary Form and the high, sung Mass with incense was so lovely. Our Latin Mass Pastor had the parents and Communicant come to the high altar to kneel for the Eucharist and I will never forget looking over to my son as he tilted his head back and recieved Our Lord....my tears spilled. They have for every first Communion....what else compares to having Christ within you!

Afterwards, again, he was so celebratory and empowered. Our parish had a party in the hall for the 3 boys, pictures were taken. Then 14 relatives travelled to our house for a lovely, temperate day. My son led the table blessing in Latin and asked that we sing Holy God we Praise Thy Name before we cut the cake.

May he always be this in love with Our Lord....
